Either you love them or you hate them. Purgatory is not the typical commercial or underground hip hop group. Their uniqueness is exuded by their faith in God, reflected lifestyles on/off wax, (THESE GUYS NEVER CURSES ON WAX, PERIOD!! !) willingness to evolve and enhance their sound for the better, and relentless drive not to conform to the temporal things in life such as money, women and fame. Purgatory is currently in the process of studying the music industry while creating classics, mastering the art of music production, industry promotion and lives performances.

One thing is for sure, you will never hear low quality content from this camp. Their sound will always usher the mind to a higher plane. They both continue to strive to create the perfect verse and refuse to recognize when or if they happen to formulate it; simply put perfection just happens and is never forced. A forced marriage, per se’. It was written by God before the formulation of Heaven and Earth that these two will rock, teach, touch, love, learn, forgive and inspire. They will not conform, digress, relent, or yield to mediocrity or clever music industry’s Jedi mind tricks. The stakes are too high and the sky is too low.

Enter Purgatory, the last of an extinct breed…..

Purgatory was forged by the hand of God in 1996. A one in a million chance manifested itself when Tavares Tee Lowery aka OP-solo aka OPTIMUS RHYMEZ and Patrick Jaques Wilcox aka Conscience Rhyme aka CRhyme were stationed at Tyndall AFB Florida in late spring of 1996. The two knew each other for months before they discovered their mutual love for DA BOOM BAP. Patrick was diligently promoting his music via Cd and cassette tapes. When Tavares heard Patrick’s cassettes, he was moved to disclose he knew how to rhyme as well. Being that Patrick knew Tavares was from Chicago, he was reluctant to hear his sound. Once Patrick heard his rhymes, he was impressed and the two were forever linked in lyrical bliss. The hand of God insured the two would be geographically together over the next 9 years.

The two were station together at the following bases over the following years: Tyndall AFB, Fl 1996 to 1998, Panama City, Howard AFB Canal zone, 1998-1999, Central/Southern Florida, Tampa, Key West Naval AS 1999-2001, Osan AB Korea 2001-2002, Shaw AFB SC 2002-2004, Miami Florida 2004-2005.

The name “Purgatory” was formed in 1999 when the two mustered up $2000 and purchased the Korge Triton workstation. This instrument was instrumental in formulating Purgatory’s debut critically acclaim album, “INCURSION” in 2003. This album was never properly managed or promoted due to the growing pains Purgatory experienced which resulted in a temporary hiatus from late 2005 to mid 2007. Once again, the Lord’s left hand intervened through love, wisdom and forgiveness which eventually life-locked Purgatory into lyrical matrimony. Purgatory made a monumental decision to allow for the two to create solo albums. Op-solo finalized his debut album in the summer of 2010. Conscience Rhyme finalized his album in winter of 2012. The two are currently on schedule to finalize their sophomore album by winter 2016.

Purgatory’s theme has always been: Enhance the generations, through positive/creative music, spoken example, and chosen lifestyle. Purgatory has no desire to conform to the mainstream motto of: get rich and/or die trying! The two understand that attainment of money will come thru faith in God, talent, assertiveness and hard work. Purgatory style of music does not allow for middle ground. Their sound is not conducive to the “fence-straddler”.
